The Ministry of the Interior and Safety raised the heavy snow crisis alert from attention to caution as of 10 p.m. on the 1st after heavy snow advisories were issued for the capital area and Gangwon region, and activated Level 1 of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCHQ).
Yoon Ho-jung, head of the CDSCHQ (Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS)), ordered the establishment of a preemptive emergency response system to prevent any gaps in response during vulnerable hours, as heavy snowfall is expected from late at night to the morning of the 2nd, and directed real-time monitoring of actual snowfall conditions in preparation for abnormal weather.
He also urged thorough snow removal on major roads and vulnerable sections to prevent traffic inconveniences such as road icing during the Monday morning commute on the 2nd.
The Deputy Minister asked the public to check weather information and traffic conditions frequently, refrain from going out as much as possible, and follow public safety guidelines such as shoveling snow in front of homes and shops.
