On Monday the 2nd, heavy snow is expected across most regions nationwide, so commuters should take caution.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration on the 1st, due to the influence of a trough, snow will begin in the Seoul metropolitan area and inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon at night and expand to most regions nationwide from the early hours of the 2nd. The Korea Meteorological Administration said heavy snow is expected from the night, and issued a preliminary heavy snow advisory for most regions nationwide, including Seoul (9 p.m.).
By region, heavy snow of 1–3 cm per hour, and around 5 cm in some areas, will fall intensively, and some places are expected to be placed under a heavy snow advisory. In the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon, 1–3 cm per hour is expected from late night through early Monday, with more than 5 cm in some areas. As the snow clouds move south, the Chungcheong region will see 1–3 cm per hour from early Monday, up to 5 cm in some spots, and Jeolla and western Gyeongsang will see 1–3 cm per hour from Monday morning through the morning hours.
Expected snowfall: Seoul metropolitan area 3–10 cm; Gangwon inland and mountains 5–10 cm (more than 15 cm in the mountains); Chungcheong 3–8 cm; North Jeolla 2–7 cm; South Jeolla 1–5 cm; Ulleungdo and Dokdo 5–10 cm; western Gyeongsang 2–7 cm; north-central North Gyeongsang inland 1–5 cm; Daegu, southeastern North Gyeongsang inland, the East Sea coast of North Gyeongsang, and central inland South Gyeongsang 1–3 cm; Jeju 1–5 cm.
Morning lows nationwide are forecast at -10 to 0 degrees, with highs from -1 to 7 degrees.
With subzero cold expected in the morning after heavy snowfall, be especially careful of icy and slick roads. In particular, as a large amount of snow is expected to have accumulated before the morning commute, commuters should prepare accordingly.
Snow will taper off in the Seoul metropolitan area and South Chungcheong in the early hours of the 2nd, and in most other regions nationwide during the morning. On Jeju, snow will continue until midday before ending.
