The National Fire Agency said on the 1st that it has formed a "large-scale disaster-site leader-level expert pool" to help commanders make accurate decisions at disaster scenes that are growing larger and more complex.
Starting in Dec. last year, the National Fire Agency began identifying experts and secured 400 specialists in nine core fields, including fires, collapses, CBRNE (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and explosives), hazardous-materials accidents, and drone and artificial intelligence (AI) application technologies. They include 301 fire officials and 99 civilian experts.
They will serve as a public-private cooperative advisory group and plan to act as the "brain" for on-site commanders when a major disaster occurs. Specifically, they will take on missions such as: ▲ "strategic advice," which proposes risk predictions and tactical and operational directions; ▲ "technical support," which analyzes high-risk situations such as special fires or building collapses; and ▲ "media briefing support," which clearly communicates the situation to the public.
The National Fire Agency also plans to link the leader-level expert pool for large-scale disaster sites with an "AI-based disaster-type command strategy agent (chatbot)" that is currently being built. When a disaster occurs, the AI system will recommend in real time and connect the nearest expert suited to the disaster type and situation.
Kim Seung-ryong, acting commissioner of the National Fire Agency, said, "Going forward, we will organically combine an AI-based advanced command system with human expertise to build a scientific disaster response system that the public can trust."
