A fire at a factory in Eumseong County, North Chungcheong Province, was brought under control after about three hours.
The National Fire Agency said it had put out the main blaze at a sanitary products manufacturing plant in Maengdong-myeon at about 6:02 p.m. on the 30th.
Fire authorities began extinguishing efforts from 3:05 p.m. that day. They then issued a level 2 response from 3:25 p.m. and put out the fire by deploying additional firefighting equipment and personnel, including six helicopters. An unmanned firefighting robot was also mobilized.
A fire of unknown cause broke out at about 2:56 p.m. that day at the factory, which stores wet wipes and diapers. The flames spread quickly and reached nearby factories.
Immediately after the fire, 81 of the 83 employees working at the factory evacuated. However, the whereabouts of two foreign employees have not been confirmed.
Fire authorities plan to begin searching for the missing as soon as the fire is fully extinguished.
