The dessert Dubai jjondeuk cookie, which is hugely popular in Korea, has landed in Dubai, the largest city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Local users who had already come across the Dubai jjondeuk cookie through K-pop stars' social media (SNS) videos said, "It finally came to Dubai," showing interest.
The local outlet Time Out Dubai, which introduces restaurants and attractions in Dubai, recently featured Korea's Dubai jjondeuk cookie in an article on "9 food trends that will be in vogue in Dubai this year." The outlet said, "Lately in Korea, the 'Dubai jjondeuk cookie (Dubai chewy cookie)' has exploded in popularity, leading to a surge of orders and sellouts."
It went on to explain, "Made with pistachio spread, white chocolate, kunafa (a traditional Middle Eastern dessert) fried in butter, marshmallow, and cocoa powder, this cookie is small but has a chewy texture."
The outlet predicted that the Dubai jjondeuk cookie will soon gain popularity in Dubai as well. Time Out Dubai said, "People in Dubai especially love pistachio-based desserts," adding, "A craze is likely to sweep Dubai before long."
In fact, Dubai cafes selling the Dubai jjondeuk cookie are beginning to pop up. On the 23rd, Time Out Dubai posted on Instagram a video of the Dubai jjondeuk cookie being sold at Gateau Cake Studio in the Al Mina area of Dubai. The outlet added the phrase "From Dubai to Seoul, and back to Dubai" to the post.
