Professor Seo Gyeong-deok of Sungshin Women's University joined actor Ryu Seung-ryong in a campaign to improve the housing environment for national merit honorees.
On the 29th, Seo said on social media (SNS), "In concert with actor Ryu Seung-ryong, we produced and released a multilingual video on the theme of the 'Republic of Korea merit honorees housing support campaign.'"
The video was produced jointly with Habitat for Humanity Korea, runs about four minutes, and is being shared at home and abroad in two versions, Korean and English. Habitat for Humanity Korea is an international nonprofit that carries out housing support projects to help people living in poor housing conditions. It was founded in the United States in 1976 and now operates a Korea office as well.
Seo said, "The video shows that only about 10% of descendants of independence activists are properly receiving state support, and 71% are continuing difficult lives with no income," adding, "Starting this year, we plan to work harder to improve the housing environment for Republic of Korea merit honorees, including independence and war veterans."
Seo added, "As an ambassador for the campaign, I will actively support Korea's heroes and their descendants so they can live in even slightly better conditions," emphasizing, "We will run projects tied to national commemorative days such as March 1 Independence Movement Day, Memorial Day, and Liberation Day so many internet users can participate together and broaden social consensus."
In the campaign video, actor Ryu Seung-ryong provided the Korean narration, adding meaning. Seo added, "Ryu Seung-ryong said he was pleased to narrate such a meaningful video and hopes many internet users at home and abroad will watch it."
