An allegation by a husband that his family collapsed because of an affair between a former star professional baseball player and the wife is stirring controversy online.
On the 27th, husband A, who posted on an online community, introduced himself as the head of a household in his 17th year of marriage and laid out the incident. A said, "At the time of the first affair, the child was playing baseball, and the other man was B, a coach and a former player known in the baseball world," and added, "I forgave all the affairs and tried to cover it up with only a written agreement, fearing it might ruin the child's future."
But the affair between the two continued even afterward. A said, "While I was away from home, my wife lived with B at our house along with the child, and it led to a trip and lodging at a beach in Incheon and even a trip to Busan together," and asserted, "Put simply, the child saw everything about the affair between the wife and the child's mentor."
A also shared the son's feelings. "When I later asked my son why he didn't tell me the truth, the boy, who was 12 at the time, answered, 'I couldn't say anything because I thought Dad wouldn't let me play baseball if he found out,'" and said, "The child watched the famous coach's mood and kept quiet and lied, thinking that if the situation got out, his baseball could be over."
He went on, "The first person to inform me about the affair between the baseball team coach and my wife was my son. Crying, he told me he was scared because Mom was doing that with the coach," and confided, "It breaks my heart to think about why that son lied and hid the affair. It must have been only because he wanted to play baseball."
At the same time, A said, "Foolishly, I hate myself for feeling betrayed by the fact that my son hid his mother's affair. I feel disqualified as a father, and it hurts." He added that B was a former player of the team he supported and someone he personally trusted and interacted with, saying, "Because I personally chose the mentor, the sense of betrayal was even greater."
A is currently proceeding with a lawsuit. He said, "When the affair was first uncovered, we drew up a written agreement with B stating 'if he resumes an affair with my wife, he will pay 50 million won in compensation,'" and revealed, "But less than a month after the agreement was made, the two restarted the affair, and B was also married at the time."
A said he attended the first mediation date that day. He said, "The settlement amount proposed by B's side was only 10 million won. It wasn't about the amount; it was devastating that the price for destroying the family we kept for 17 years and the life of a student was a mere 10 million won," and added, "I was more deeply hurt by the attitude that this was all there was, without a single word of apology."
Lastly, A emphasized, "Discipline is absolutely necessary to ensure that underqualified mentors like this do not teach children going forward," and said, "Only leaders who can teach character and sports properly to children should remain."
