Singer and actor Cha Eun-woo is engulfed in allegations of tax evasion worth about 20 billion won through a corporation established by his mother, and the corporation's registered address has been confirmed as an eel restaurant on Ganghwa Island.
The corporation was established in Oct. 2022, and its address is registered as Deokseong-ri, Buleun-myeon, Ganghwa County, Incheon. This is an eel restaurant that Cha Eun-woo's parents have operated for a long time. The corporation later belatedly changed its address to an office in Nonhyeon-dong, Gangnam District, Seoul, on Dec. 23 last year, according to reports.
As the tax evasion allegations surfaced, advertisers quickly began to distance themselves. Shinhan Bank on the 22nd set to private the ad videos and images featuring Cha Eun-woo on YouTube and other social media. Skincare brand Abib also switched its YouTube ad videos to private and deleted related photos posted on Instagram and other social media (SNS).
Meanwhile, Cha Eun-woo enlisted in July last year and is currently serving in the military. The National Tax Service investigation is said to have been conducted in the first half of last year before enlistment. Cha Eun-woo is scheduled to be discharged in Jan. 2027, and the Netflix drama "Wonderpools" is set to be released this year.
