Police investigating various allegations of misconduct by lawmaker Kim Byung-kee, who left the Democratic Party of Korea, are conducting a search and seizure at Dongjak Police Station in Seoul.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crime Investigation Unit began executing a search and seizure warrant at Dongjak Police Station at about 9:50 a.m. on the 23rd. It was said to be securing materials related to the "probe-meddling allegations."
Kim is suspected of mobilizing lawmakers who are former senior police officials to make an improper request to the then-chief of Dongjak Police Station in an attempt to quash an investigation into allegations that his wife misused a corporate card.
Kim's wife was suspected of privately misusing the corporate card for business expenses of then–Seoul Dongjak District Council Vice Chair Cho Jin-hee from July to September 2022, but Dongjak Police Station closed the case without charges after a pre-booking inquiry last year.
