The head of actor Gang Dong-won's agency and singer CL are expected to be sent to prosecutors over allegations that they operated without registering as an agency.
According to police on the 22nd, the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul plans to refer CL, the corporation she established, and A, the head of Gang Dong-won's agency, to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office without detention on the 23rd on charges of violating the Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act.
CL is accused of operating a corporation without going through the registration process for popular culture and arts agency business. She established the label Very Cherry in 2020 and was found to have run the company as its head for about five years without completing the registration process.
A is accused of establishing a corporation in 2023 and operating the company without registration. However, it was determined that affiliated actor Gang Dong-won did not take part in running the agency, and he was reportedly cleared of suspicion.
The investigation began after a complaint was filed in Sep. last year alleging that one-person agencies under entertainers' personal names were being operated without registration for popular culture and arts agency business.
The Popular Culture and Arts Industry Development Act requires registration for popular culture and arts agency business when operating an entertainment agency. Violations are punishable by up to two years in prison or a fine of up to 20 million won.
