A teenager who posted threats on an internet site saying they would blow up a KT office building, train stations and broadcast stations has been sent to prosecutors in custody.
The Bundang Police Station in Gyeonggi said on the 22nd that it sent teenager A to prosecutors under arrest on charges of public intimidation. A is accused of posting on a KT mobile phone activation consultation board on the 5th, saying, "I have planted a bomb at the Bundang KT office building. It will explode at 9 p.m.," and "If you do not deposit 10 billion won, I will go on a stabbing rampage."
A is also suspected of repeatedly posting threatening messages targeting Unjeong Jungang Station (on the 9th), Gangnam Station (on the 9th), Busan Station (on the 10th), Cheonan Asan Station (on the 11th), SBS (on the 11th) and MBC (on the 11th), among others.
A was found to have carried out the crime by masking the internet protocol (IP) address through a virtual private network (VPN) and then posting threats on internet boards without real-name verification.
Police were also said to have detected indications that A posted about an assassination of President Lee Jae-myung on the 119 emergency report board in September last year. The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency has been investigating the case for months.
