Actor Kwon Sang-woo, 49, apologized after criticism that he made viewers uncomfortable by appearing heavily intoxicated while filming a YouTube segment.
On the 19th, Kwon Sang-woo left a comment on the YouTube channel Zzanbro, saying, "I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable by being too drunk," and, "I sincerely went to film 'Zzanbro,' and out of love for the project, I pushed myself to drink even though my tolerance is low. I'm currently abstaining from alcohol." Zzanbro is a "drinking show" hosted by Shin Dong-yeop.
The controversy began with a Zzanbro episode released the same day. To promote the film Heart Man, Kwon Sang-woo appeared as a guest with Moon Chae-won and P.O and talked about his works Heart Man and Once Upon a Time in High School.
In keeping with the drinking talk show concept, Kwon Sang-woo drank alcohol and appeared visibly inebriated, his face flushed. As joking remarks laced with profanity and physical contact toward P.O continued, Moon Chae-won tried to stop him, saying, "I think you can drink more slowly." Kwon said, "Even drunk, I prefer being honest," and added, "Please edit it well."
Meanwhile, Heart Man, starring Kwon Sang-woo, opened on the 14th. The comedy follows Seung-min (Kwon Sang-woo), a man who returns and reunites with his first love, and as of 8 p.m. on the 20th, its cumulative attendance stood at about 160,000.
Kwon Sang-woo married actor Son Tae-young in 2008, and they have one son and one daughter. Son shares her daily life in the United States through YouTube, and Kwon also occasionally appears to give updates on how he is doing.
