A man in his 70s who suddenly lost consciousness and collapsed at a restaurant was saved by the swift first aid of a Presidential Security Service employee.
According to Yonhap News on the 20th, on the 16th in the afternoon at a Chinese restaurant in Yongsan District, Seoul, Protective Agent Song witnessed a man in his 70s at the next table suddenly collapse while eating with an acquaintance.
Song immediately approached the man, checked consciousness and breathing, and secured the airway. After confirming cardiac arrest, Song asked nearby patrons to call 119 and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about five minutes.
Thanks to the quick response, the man regained consciousness just before the paramedics arrived.
In a phone interview with Yonhap News, Song said, "I couldn't hesitate for even a moment, thinking that he is someone's precious family member," and added, "It is a public servant's natural duty to protect citizens' lives and safety." Song went on, "I once again felt the importance of first-aid education and hope such training spreads more widely."
