A man in his 30s was arrested on a warrant on charges of molesting an unspecified number of women over two consecutive days while roaming around shopping arcades.
According to the Suwon Yeongtong Police Station in Gyeonggi on the 19th, the Suwon District Court held a pretrial detention hearing for suspect A, who is accused of forced indecent assault, and issued an arrest warrant.
The court said it issued the warrant because "there is a risk of flight."
Suspect A is accused of grabbing the hands or touching the shoulders of eight women around 6 p.m. on the 16th at places including a cafe inside a commercial building in Gwanggyo New Town in Suwon, Gyeonggi.
At the time, suspect A reportedly walked around inside the cafe, approached a woman sitting on a chair, and suddenly hugged her from behind, repeating the offense.
On the 15th, at the same location, the person was also detained by police and questioned on suspicion of molesting four women, and committed the same crime while booked without detention.
Police arrested suspect A in the act and, after questioning, sought an arrest warrant, judging there was a risk of reoffending. In a police interview, suspect A said the motive was "impulsive."
The person tested negative in a preliminary drug test conducted by police. So far, no medical history, including psychiatric treatment records, has been confirmed for suspect A.
Police plan to continue supplemental questioning of suspect A, who has been detained.
