Jung Yoon-i (57), a consultant at Haevichi Hotel & Resort, the granddaughter of the late honorary chairman Chung Ju-yung of Hyundai Group and daughter of Hyundai Motor Group honorary chairman Chung Mong-koo, drew attention by appearing on an entertainment program in the role of manager. She appeared on the broadcast as the manager of her son, Shin Woo-hyeon (21), who is active as a Formula 3 (F3) driver.
Jung appeared on MBC's entertainment program "The manager's perspective," which aired on the 17th. Jung is the third daughter of honorary chairman Chung Mong-koo and the older sister of Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Eui-sun.
On the broadcast, Jung offered a candid stance on perceptions that her son's growth was "thanks to family background." Jung said, "Driver Shin Woo-hyeon has grown a lot in four years," and added, "I am well aware there are people who think he got here easily thanks to his parents' background." Jung emphasized, "It is true he was fortunate to receive help from his parents, but I hope people recognize that he has made painstaking efforts himself."
Jung also said she personally accompanies and cheers at all of her son's races. "I have never thought I should stop him because it's dangerous," Jung said. "Once I realized how important racing is to my son, I chose to serve as his manager and have been supporting him more actively."
Jung added, "Now, not only results but also personal recognition are important factors for a racer," and said, "My son is putting his life on the line to take on this challenge. The public's attention and support will be a great strength."
Driver Shin Woo-hyeon is Korea's second F3 driver, following driver Lim Chae-won. Shin said, "There are only 30 F3 drivers worldwide, 22 in F2, and 20 in F1," and explained, "I first got in a kart in 2021 and took runner-up at a competition just eight months later, and I won my F4 debut the following year."
Shin is currently training and competing while traveling between France, Britain and Korea. The broadcast showed him beginning diet control using a scale and physical training just 13 hours after returning to Korea, conveying his thorough self-discipline and passion as a racer.
