Voice actor Seon Eun-hye (40), known for her work in the animation "Black Rubber Shoes 4," died on the 16th. She was 40.
Her husband, Chair Choi Jae-ho of the Korea Voice Performance Association, said on the 19th that "my wife died of cardiac arrest on the evening of the 16th." Her survivors include her husband and son.
She revealed she was battling illness on her Instagram in Dec. last year. At the time, she said, "The illness I learned of only after three years was spasmodic dysphonia," adding, "It is a fatal disease for those whose profession requires using their voice." She continued, "Eight months ago I had my uterus removed, and I must undergo hormone therapy for five years," and "I also have a thyroid fine-needle aspiration test ahead." She added, "I hope I can be of some help to those going through a difficult time."
After news of her death broke, tributes from fellow voice actors followed. Voice actor Jeong Seong-hun said on X (formerly Twitter), "I sincerely pray for the repose of junior Seon Eun-hye," and voice actor Chae Ui-jin posted a photo of a chrysanthemum with the message, "Beautiful junior Eun-hye, rest in peace." Voice actor Nam Do-hyeong also expressed condolences, saying, "I won't forget the time we spent together."
Born in 1984, she was selected as a 36th-class open recruitment voice actor at KBS in 2011 and began her career. She was active with her voice in numerous KBS Radio Theater productions and various documentary narrations.
From 2013, she turned freelance and drew attention by playing Jeon Seong-cheol in the animation "Black Rubber Shoes 4," and also took part in numerous works including "How to Train Your Dragon," "LEGO Elves," "The Garden of Words," "Hunter x Hunter The Movie," and the drama "Doctor Who Season 7" and "The Legend of Chu and Han."
The funeral was held as a three-day service at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Seoul, with the procession completed at 7 a.m. that day. The burial site is Sae Saram Training Center in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.
