A woman in her 50s who filed a false report pretending to be a robbery victim to siphon off money without her husband knowing has been booked on charges of obstructing the performance of official duties by deception.
According to police on the 18th, the Chungbuk Chungju Police Station booked A on suspicion of obstructing the performance of official duties by deception without detention and is investigating.
The incident occurred at about 2:40 p.m. on the 1st at a dwellings in Chungju. At the time, A's husband said, "My wife is home alone, and an unknown man has come by and is knocking on the door," and called the police.
A told officers who responded to the scene, "A Namsung tied my wrist with a shoelace after I opened the door and smashed a piggy bank to take 300,000 won in cash."
However, after analyzing nearby closed-circuit (CC)TV footage, police did not identify anyone who could be suspected as a suspect around A's residence before or after the report.
When police pressed A about the possibility of a false report, A eventually confessed it "was staged." The investigation found that A, without informing the spouse in a de facto marriage, plotted the act to transfer the money in the piggy bank as an allowance to a child. The cash from the piggy bank was reportedly put in a plastic bag and hidden in the laundry room.
Police said that staging a situation as if suffering a serious crime to mobilize public authority for a private purpose is clearly a crime and that they plan to handle the case strictly, as it needlessly consumes investigative personnel and public safety resources and disrupts crime response.
