Smoke rose from an overhead bin on a passenger plane about to take off from Gimpo Airport, delaying departure.
According to Korea Airports Corporation (KAC) and others on the 17th, smoke came from an overhead bin on Eastar Jet Co. flight ZE201, which was scheduled to depart from Gimpo Airport for Jeju Airport at about 6:45 a.m. that morning, delaying operations for more than an hour.
Flight attendants who received a report from a passenger immediately extinguished the smoke. There were no injuries, but departure was delayed as passengers deplaned and boarded another aircraft as a precaution against a potential accident.
A backup battery fire was suspected, but on-site checks reportedly found no related signs. The cause of the smoke is under investigation by the airline.
