African swine fever (ASF) broke out at a pig farm in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, prompting authorities to launch an emergency quarantine response.
Prime Minister Kim Min-seok on the 17th said, "The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs should carry out quarantine measures without fail in accordance with the emergency action guidelines, including access control for the farm where swine fever occurred, culling, a temporary standstill, and intensive disinfection." He also ordered an epidemiological investigation to determine how it occurred.
Kim also said, "The Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment should thoroughly inspect fences around the affected farm area and carry out searches for and capture of wild boars found dead," and urged, "Related ministries, local governments, and relevant agencies should actively cooperate in implementing quarantine measures."
