Police decided not to refer actor Nana, formerly of the girl group After School and whose real name is Lim Jin-a, who was countersued by a man who broke into her home and committed a robbery.
Guri Police Station in Gyeonggi said on the 16th that it decided not to refer Nana, who was booked on charges of attempted murder and aggravated assault, after finding no suspicion.
The case became known when a man in his 30s, identified as A, who was arrested and referred on robbery charges, filed a complaint from a detention center in Dec. last year, saying he "was harmed by a weapon by Nana."
Police received the complaint and, as a procedural step, booked Nana as a suspect and conducted an investigation.
Police said that after questioning Nana on the 8th, they reviewed the sequence of events and related materials and notified a decision not to refer the case, judging that Nana's actions constituted justifiable self-defense.
Earlier, during the process of arresting and referring A, police had also determined that the injuries inflicted by Nana constituted justifiable self-defense.
A was arrested and referred on charges of breaking into Nana's home in Acheon-dong, Guri, around 6 a.m. on Nov. 15 last year with a weapon, threatening Nana and her mother, injuring them, and then demanding valuables.
A was found to have used a ladder to climb to the veranda, opened a door that was not locked, and entered the house.
A reportedly assaulted Nana's mother, including by choking her, when encountering her. After hearing her mother's scream, Nana woke up and tried to stop it, leading to a scuffle, during which A was found to have suffered a jaw injury caused by a weapon.
