Chef Anh Sung-jae once again tried making the "Dubai jjondeuk cookie." Anh previously made the Dubai jjondeuk cookie and drew harsh reviews from his daughter and internet users.
On the 14th, a video titled "Riding the wave of scorching complaints, Anh Sung-jae provides after-sales service for Duddaggang Duranmari" was posted on the YouTube channel "Chef Anh Sung-jae."
Late last year, Anh Sung-jae made the Dubai jjondeuk cookie with his daughter, Siyoung, and son, Eungi. But he ignored Siyoung's input and deviated from the commonly known Dubai jjondeuk cookie recipe, ending up with a hard-textured "Dubai gangjeong."
As a result, more than 13,000 comments poured in, including "Listen to your daughter," "Dubai gangjeong," and "Dubai dry cookie," drawing attention.
Referring to this, Anh said, "To be honest, I didn't really know what the Dubai jjondeuk cookie was. I had never tried it, and I had only heard about it in passing," offering an excuse.
He added, "I didn't know it would become such a hot topic," and said, "Guests who came to Mosu greeted me and asked, 'When are you going to make the Dubai jjondeuk cookie?' and someone even gave one as a gift for Siyoung. That's when I realized I had made a mistake."
His daughter, Siyoung, said, "I was actually grateful that as many as 13,000 people spoke up for me," and added, "The comment I remember the most was, 'It's the same as asking for fried chicken and getting baeksuk (poached chicken).'"
This time, Siyoung led the cooking throughout the process of making the Dubai jjondeuk cookie. Sticking to the standard method, they completed the result she wanted.
Anh Sung-jae first assessed the taste by saying, "It's sweet for me," then immediately showed a change of heart, saying, "This is right for Dad's palate, too."
The Dubai jjondeuk cookie is a dessert made by mixing kadayif and pistachio spread, the main ingredients of Dubai chocolate, to form the filling, then wrapping it with marshmallow dough mixed with cocoa powder. It has recently surged in popularity, leading to shortages.
