A teenager who repeatedly made bomb threats targeting KT, railway stations, and broadcasters has been arrested and detained.
On the 15th, Lee Tak-soon, the judge in charge of warrants at the Seongnam branch of the Suwon District Court, held a pre-arrest suspect interrogation (substantive warrant review) for minor A, who is accused of public intimidation, and issued an arrest warrant.
The judge said there is a concern about flight.
From the 5th to the 11th, minor A is suspected of making one bomb threat each against six locations, including the Bundang KT headquarters, Gangnam Station, Busan Station, Cheonan-Asan Station, SBS, and MBC.
Using an overseas IP by bypassing through a virtual private network (VPN), the person continued "swatting" by posting on a fire authorities' reporting board that does not require identity verification or on terrestrial broadcasters' anonymous boards.
Swatting refers to a crime that aims to harass a specific target by prompting a law enforcement dispatch.
Minor A is understood to have carried out swatting by stealing the identity of another user with whom there was a conflict on the messenger app "Discord."
Police secured a statement from minor A that five additional swatting incidents were carried out targeting Lotte World, Dongdaegu Station, Suwon Station, Unjeongjungang Station, and a certain middle school, and are verifying the facts.
Meanwhile, police plan to continue their investigation into the detained minor A.
