A former aide who exposed various corruption allegations against Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker Kim Byung-kee appeared before police on the 14th.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crime Investigation Unit is questioning a former aide, a person surnamed Kim, as a reference witness and is under investigation. Entering the interrogation room at about 12:50 p.m. that day, Kim told reporters, "The lawmaker (Kim Byung-kee) said that 'suspicions cannot become facts,' but because most of the criminal charges now under review are true, I will explain well so they can be fully proven."
In November last year, Kim submitted a written statement to the Dongjak Police Station in Seoul regarding the lawmaker's alleged misconduct. The statement included allegations that the lawmaker influenced his younger son's transfer to Soongsil University and sought employment at the virtual asset exchange Bithumb through solicitation.
That day, police raided six locations, including the lawmaker's home, National Assembly office, and constituency office, on suspicion that he received 30 million won from two former Dongjak District Council members. The targets of the search included the lawmaker, the lawmaker's spouse, and Dongjak District Council Vice Chair Lee Ji-hee.
