A voluntary confession letter by Seoul city council member Kim Kyung, who is embroiled in allegations of a nomination bribe, is said to include a statement that Rep. Kang Sun-woo was also present when 100 million won was handed over.
According to police and others on the 14th, the city council member recently submitted a voluntary confession letter with this content to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Public Crime Investigation Unit through a lawyer.
The letter reportedly states that ahead of the 2022 local elections, 100 million won was handed over at a cafe, and that Rep. Kang and A, a former aide who was Kang's chief of staff at the time, were present together.
This contradicts Rep. Kang's explanation. Rep. Kang said the cash transaction was learned belatedly and that an order was given to return it.
A, the former aide pointed to as brokering the money, also says there was no knowledge of it at all, leaving the parties' accounts in complete conflict.
Police questioned the city council member once on the 11th, after returning from the United States. A second questioning was said to be coordinated for the day or on the 15th.
