As Coupang is set to provide purchase vouchers on the 15th as compensation for the massive personal data leak, multiple usage restrictions have emerged.
According to the compensation manual Coupang distributed internally on the 14th, the aggregates of voucher payments total 50,000 won per person.
According to the compensation plan Coupang released earlier, purchase vouchers worth 5,000 won each apply to all products on Coupang including Rocket Delivery, Rocket Direct, and Marketplace, as well as Coupang Eats; and 20,000 won each for Coupang Travel and the luxury platform R.LUX.
The problem is that there are restrictions on which products can be purchased. Among consumers, a "pro tip" has spread about using Coupang Travel purchase vouchers to buy e-gift cards for items like fried chicken, coffee, and cosmetics instead of travel products. However, such e-gift cards cannot be purchased with Coupang Travel purchase vouchers, which are reportedly limited to domestic lodging products and domestic ticket products only.
There are also limits on the usage period. Purchase vouchers can be used until Apr. 15 and are valid for three months. One voucher can be applied to one product, and once the usage period ends, the coupon expires automatically.
If an item purchased with a purchase voucher is refunded, the voucher is restored; however, only refunds processed by Apr. 15, within the validity period, will have the voucher returned. In addition, even within the voucher usage period, if only part of an order is canceled, the voucher reportedly is not fully restored.
For Coupang Eats purchase vouchers, they can be used for food delivery but reportedly cannot be used for takeout orders.
