Unidentified wooden boats were found one after another along the Jeju coast. Authorities determined there were no signs of criminal activity and disposed of the boats.
According to the Seogwipo Maritime Police Station and the Jeju Provincial Police Agency on the 14th, a wooden boat was found on the afternoon of Dec. 30 last year on the coast of Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo.
A Jeju coastal guard unit on patrol first spotted it and requested coordination with the Korea Coast Guard. The wooden boat turned out to be an unpowered vessel with no outboard motor. The Korea Coast Guard considered it a drifting boat based on the heavy moss and other growth on the bottom.
Earlier, on the morning of the 12th, an unidentified wooden boat was also found in Woljeong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju City. The boat was severely damaged and had no notable belongings on board.
The Korea Coast Guard determined that neither wooden boat showed signs of criminal activity and handed them over to the local government, and they have since been disposed of.
