Macau Airlines is under fire for placing an in-flight guidebook that includes a description saying "Changdeokgung is Chinese-style architecture."
Seo Kyung-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, said on the 13th on social media (SNS), "The guidebook, reported by a netizen, is Macau Airlines' 'destination guide,' and in its introduction to Changdeokgung it described it in English, Chinese, and Japanese as 'Chinese-style architecture.'"
Seo said the professor immediately sent a protest email to Macau Airlines, noting, "This is a clear error," and pointed out, "Changdeokgung is a space where nature and architecture are in harmony, a traditional building that represents Korea."
He added, "Recognized for this value, it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997," and urged, "The guidance should be corrected promptly so that foreigners do not misunderstand."
Seo noted, "In many places overseas, incorrect information about Korea's culture and history remains, and reports from netizens are playing an important role in correcting it."
