Minister of the Interior and Safety Yoon Ho-jung said on the 12th, "I will ensure the police's neutrality and the independence of investigations."
The Minister said in opening remarks at the Korean National Police Agency's work briefing that day, "For the happiness and safety of the people, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) and the police must each fulfill their roles," adding the same.
The Minister said, "The Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS) must protect the people's safety from disasters and accidents, and it is our police's role to protect the people's safety from crime," adding, "From the police leadership to frontline staff, I ask everyone to join forces and work for a safer Republic of Korea."
He went on, "To the public and to police officers, I make this promise," adding, "As the Minister of the Interior and Safety responsible for public safety, I will continue to work with the police in the area of public order—protecting livelihoods, protecting socially vulnerable groups such as women and children, and safeguarding the public from various accidents—to protect people's daily lives."
The work briefing was joined by three affiliated institutions along with the Korean National Police Agency: the Korea Road Traffic Authority (KOROAD), The Police Mutual Aid Association, and the Korea Association for Safety of Guns and Explosives.
The Minister said, "The Korea Road Traffic Authority (KOROAD) handles driver's license services and is a familiar institution to us," adding, "Beyond licenses, it is making many efforts for traffic safety, including traffic accident analysis."
He continued, "In the case of The Police Mutual Aid Association, it is working hard for police officers' welfare through various programs," adding, "Because police officers' happiness translates directly into the public's happiness, it is doing a very important job."
The Minister also said, "The Korea Association for Safety of Guns and Explosives provides technical support for firearms and conducts safety testing," adding, "Incidents and accidents related to firearms have been increasing recently, and I believe the association's importance is also rising."
At the same time, the Minister said, "I hope it becomes well known how hard the Korean National Police Agency and the three affiliated institutions are working for public safety," adding, "This is the people-centered governance that our 'popular sovereignty government' pursues."
