The Ministry of the Interior and Safety raised the heavy snow crisis alert from "attention" to "caution." With heavy snow advisories issued for North Chungcheong, North Jeolla, and North Gyeongsang, and the possibility growing of advisories for other regions, the ministry said it would preemptively put a response system in place.
The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCHQ) also preemptively activated level 1.
Yoon Ho-jung, head of the CDSCHQ (Minister of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (MOIS)), said, "With heavy, wet snow and strong winds centered on the Chungcheong and Jeolla regions, there are concerns about damage such as facility collapses," and "If necessary, actively implement preemptive controls and resident evacuations for areas expected to be isolated, snow load–vulnerable structures, and multiuse facilities."
Yoon, the CDSCHQ head, asked people to check weather information frequently and follow public safety guidelines, such as carrying out snow removal during daytime hours when it is safe.
