Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, said on the 7th that it held the first on-site senior officials meeting of the new year at the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster general industrial complex in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoin-gu. The semiconductor cluster complex where the meeting was held is where construction is underway on SK hynix's first fab (Fab).
About 30 people, including Mayor Lee Sang-il, the first and second vice mayors, senior officials such as bureau Directors-General, and officials from semiconductor-related departments, attended the meeting.
Attendees focused on inspecting the status of efforts to build the semiconductor ecosystem underway in Yongin, including the "Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex" in Idong and Namsa-eup and the "Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex" in Wonsam-myeon. In addition, as the national industrial complex has entered the stage of negotiating compensation for losses, the city decided to support administrative procedures so that follow-up steps such as compensation and permits can proceed without a hitch in the first half of this year, in line with groundbreaking in the second half.
In addition, regarding the recent debate stemming from claims to relocate the semiconductor cluster complex, the city said it would publicly explain the significance and progress of the semiconductor project.
Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "Yongin's semiconductor project is a national core strategic project that goes beyond the interests of a particular region and is directly linked to the future competitiveness of the Republic of Korea," adding, "It is very regrettable that, due to the lack of a clear conclusion at the central government level regarding the recent debate over transfer to other regions, conflicts between regions are growing."
He went on to say, "Although some politicians are stirring things up ahead of the June local elections and confusion is spreading, this kind of mix-up and turmoil must be sorted out quickly," adding, "We should not be swayed by other voices, but instead accelerate the semiconductor project as planned and push it forward without setbacks."
Starting with the on-site senior officials meeting held that day, the city plans to continue on-site senior officials meetings to review major policy issues.
