Police arrested a man who strangled a passerby and wielded a weapon at a plaza in front of Yeongdeungpo Station in Yeongdeungpo District, Seoul.
The Yeongdeungpo Police Station in Seoul said on Jan. 5 that it arrested a man in his 40s, identified as A, on Jan. 3 on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of a weapon in a public place, and theft.
At about 9:30 p.m. on the 3rd, A is suspected of strangling a woman passing by at the plaza in front of Yeongdeungpo Station and wielding a weapon at other pedestrians. There were no casualties as startled passersby fled the scene.
The weapon A used in the crime was reportedly stolen from a nearby convenience store. It was confirmed that A was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time.
Police plan to determine the exact circumstances of the incident by questioning A and witnesses, then consider whether to seek an arrest warrant.
