A man arrested on charges of breaking into the home of singer-actor Nana, 34, whose real name is Im Jin-a, injuring her and demanding money, claimed in letters that he was being treated unfairly.
According to JTBC "Incident Commander" on the 2nd, A, who is being held at a detention center, sent five letters through an acquaintance. In the letters, A said, "When I entered Nana's house, I was only wearing gloves and a headset," and added, "It was only for theft, and I did not prepare a weapon in advance."
A said, "(During the scuffle, I) did not kick or swing (a weapon); while pushing and pulling, I only held the mother tightly so she could not move," and added, "Nana ran up and tried to stab my neck with a weapon (that was in the house), but I narrowly dodged it and was stabbed between my ear and neck to a depth of 7 cm."
He continued, "From the very first moment we met, I did not touch any part of Nana's body, not even a single hair. On the contrary, even after I was stabbed with a weapon, I was assaulted by Nana."
A also explained why he initially admitted to the crime during the investigation and then retracted his statement. He said, "I broke into the house because I needed money for my mother's hospital bills," and added, "After I was subdued by Nana and her mother, I told the truth and apologized. Then Nana's side proposed that if I told police I had entered with a weapon, they would give me the 40 million won I said I needed."
He added, "I trusted what Nana said and testified in line with the agreement during the police questioning, but after I was placed in the holding cell, I heard that Nana and her mother had submitted medical reports for their injuries, and I wrote the letters to reveal the truth."
On Nov. 15 last year, A broke into Nana's home in Guri, Gyeonggi, carrying a weapon. When A found Nana's mother inside the house, A inflicted injuries, and Nana, awakened by her mother's screams, fought with her mother to subdue A and called police. In the process, Nana was injured, and the mother also suffered injuries, including being choked by A, and received hospital treatment.
It was found that A suffered a laceration to the jaw area from a weapon during the incident, but police determined that the injuries inflicted on A by Nana and her mother constituted self-defense and did not book them.
Nana's side denies A's claims. The agency Sublime said, "The claims about hospital bills, monetary offers, or an agreement related to a weapon are not true at all; rather, the assailant asked us not to report to the police," and added, "Without remorse, the assailant has filed a countersuit against the victim and is exploiting the fact that she is a public figure to cause secondary harm."
