On Monday morning, which is "Sohan" on the seasonal calendar, the Seoul metropolitan area and the Chungcheong region will drop below freezing and turn cold.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration and others on the 4th, the Monday, Jan. 5, morning low is expected to range from -9 to 3 degrees.
The expected morning lows by major area are Seoul, Incheon and Suwon -4 degrees, Sejong -3 degrees, Daejeon -2 degrees, Gangneung -1 degree, Daegu 0 degrees, Gwangju and Ulsan 1 degree, Busan 2 degrees, and Jeju 6 degrees.
Morning temperatures in northern inland Gyeonggi and inland and mountainous Gangwon are expected to be around minus 10 degrees.
Winds will also be strong, making it feel even colder.
Daytime highs on the 5th are expected to range from 0 to 9 degrees. For the time being, temperatures will be similar to or slightly higher than the average (-12 to 0 degrees, highs 1 to 9 degrees).
Jeju and Ulleungdo will see rain or snow. Expected precipitation is less than 5 mm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo and around 5 mm in Jeju. Expected snowfall is 1 to 3 cm in Ulleungdo and Dokdo and 1 to 5 cm in the Jeju mountains.
In Seoul, parts of inland Gyeonggi, the east coast and mountains of Gangwon, eastern South Jeolla, and the Gyeongsang region, where dry weather advisories are in effect, the air will be very dry.
In the outer West Sea, the outer central East Sea, the northern outer South Sea, the inner southwest sea off Jeju, and the outer south sea off Jeju, winds will blow very strongly at 30 to 60 kilometers per hour.
Fine dust levels nationwide will be "moderate."
