A man in his 40s in a family died after a fire broke out at a mixed-use residential and commercial building in Jongno District, Seoul.
According to fire authorities on the 2nd, a report came in at about 8:28 a.m. that a fire had broken out at a mixed-use residential and commercial building with one basement level and five above-ground floors in Ogin-dong, Jongno District.
A man in his 40s who was in an office on the first basement level was taken to a hospital while receiving cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but died.
A wife in her 40s and a teenage son who were in a home on the fifth floor suffered minor injuries such as smoke inhalation and were transported to a hospital.
The main blaze was brought under control in about an hour, but because smoke had to be vented, the fire was completely extinguished at about 11:25 a.m., roughly three hours later.
Fire authorities believe the blaze started on the first basement level of the building, and the exact cause is under investigation.
