On the 30th, Daejeon Mayor Lee Jang-woo said, "We will ensure the integration of Daejeon and South Chungcheong Province and be reborn as a mega special city on par with Seoul."
In a New Year's address that day, the mayor said, "United as one with citizens, we will write a new history of great prosperity in which Chungcheong rises beyond Daejeon," and stated accordingly.
The mayor said, "We will foster listed companies centered on cutting-edge strategic industries that lead the times," and added, "We will pursue livelihood policies that embrace citizens so that no one is left behind."
The mayor also said, "We will create a premier tourism city where culture and the arts flourish and people want to visit," and noted, "We will be reborn as a sustainable, eco-friendly city where life breathes."
He went on to say, "Through redevelopment of the original downtown, including the Daejeon Station area, we will create a new growth momentum for Daejeon."
The mayor said, "With the pride of the first sunrise of the New Year and an extraordinary resolve, we will move forward with citizens toward a more vigorous future," and added, "I, along with Daejeon City officials, will march forward looking only ahead, with the spirit of 'bultoejeonjin (不退前進·to advance without retreat),' toward the grand goal of completing 'Korea's new central city, a first-class economic city!'."
