The Ministry of Justice decided to grant legal residency status to 1,544 compatriots whose permitted stay had expired.
According to the Ministry of Justice on the 30th, as a result of implementing special legalization measures for compatriots from Sept. 1 to Nov. 28, 1,544 out of 2,522 applicants were selected for legalization.
The Ministry of Justice screened applicants on public health (infectious diseases, drugs, etc.), national finances (taxes, unpaid fines), and law-abiding awareness (criminal records, violations of the Immigration Act) to select those eligible for legalization.
Compatriots designated for special legalization will be granted residency status after completing early adaptation programs such as basic law and order and crime prevention education.
Jung Sung-ho, Minister of Justice, said, "This special legalization measure will serve as a springboard for the public and compatriots to integrate and advance together," adding, "We will continue to promote immigration policies in various ways that contribute to national development and social integration."
