Police said that Coupang did not disclose that it had conducted its own forensics when it submitted the suspect's laptop involved in the personal information leak.
Park Jeong-bo, Seoul Metropolitan Police Commissioner, explained this at a regular briefing on the 29th. Based on the suspect's statement, Coupang deployed divers in China to retrieve a laptop from a river and voluntarily submitted it to police on the 21st.
In the process, Coupang commissioned digital forensics from an outside institution and received the results, but it reportedly did not disclose this during a police witness interview.
Commissioner Park said, "If it is confirmed that Coupang submitted falsified or fabricated materials that are illegal or unlawful, we will hold the company strictly accountable."
On the claim that Coupang worked with the National Intelligence Service while contacting the suspect and securing evidence, Commissioner Park said, "We were not notified in advance."
Police are currently analyzing the suspect's laptop submitted by Coupang. Commissioner Park said, "The fact that Coupang submitted materials does not influence the investigation."
