A driver in his 40s died after plunging into the sea from the Incheon Bridge.
According to the Incheon Maritime Police Station and others on the 29th, a report came in at about 11:52 p.m. on the 28th that a man had fallen into the sea from the Incheon Bridge in Jung District, Incheon. The Korea Coast Guard, which received the report, confirmed that a vehicle belonging to A, in his 40s, was parked alone on the shoulder near the main tower of the Incheon Bridge and immediately deployed a rescue team.
About an hour after the search began, at about 12:54 a.m. on the 29th, the Korea Coast Guard found A in nearby waters. When found, A was in cardiac arrest with no breathing or pulse and was rushed to a hospital by 119 paramedics but was ultimately pronounced dead.
After a string of jump incidents, the Incheon Bridge reinstalled the barrels in Oct. after removing them in Aug. Currently, about 600 plastic barrels are placed along a total 3-kilometer stretch of shoulder in both directions near the main tower. However, A was found to have parked about 100 meters away from the boundary where the barrels were installed.
Police determined there were no criminal suspicions related to A's death. Police are investigating the specific circumstances of the incident based on on-site CCTV and statements from the bereaved family.
