Comedian Lee Hyuk-jae was accused of fraud after allegedly borrowing 300 million won from the head of a company and not paying it back.
Police said on the 27th that a complaint alleging Lee borrowed 300 million won in 2023 and has not repaid it was filed in July.
The complainant is an asset management firm. At the time, Lee held the unpaid honorary title of special adviser for media content (part-time) to Incheon City starting in Oct. 2022. The complainant claims Lee borrowed the money by saying he would grant business interests for a project to be carried out in Incheon and then failed to repay it.
Lee reportedly denied the allegation, saying the money was not borrowed by using the title.
In 2017, Lee lost a civil lawsuit filed by his former agency after he failed to repay about 240 million won he had borrowed. In 2015, he was sued for not repaying a friend's 200 million won, and the victim later withdrew the complaint.
