Seoul's Seongdong District said on the 25th that it formed the "Seongdong District town management committee" through public-private cooperation to create a "sustainable Seongsu-dong."
Earlier, Seongdong District enacted the "Seoul Seongdong District regional integrated management (town management) local government ordinance." It is a local government ordinance created for the public and private sectors to systematically manage a specific area of Seongdong District (Seongsu-dong). The town management committee will advise on the direction and plans for regional management.
The committee will consist of up to 20 Commissioners, including the Chairperson, and Commissioners will be representatives or executives of corporations headquartered in Seongdong District, residents or stakeholders with expertise in regional management.
The town management Commissioner appointment ceremony was held on the 23rd at Seongsu-dong Public Popup Store No. 1 (22-7 Seongsu-dong 1-ga). Seongdong District Chief Chong Won-o; the Seongdong District Chamber of Commerce; Musinsa; iiCombine; Krafton Inc.; SM Entertainment; SM Town Planner; Hyundai GLOVIS; Sampyo; Truston Asset Management; and other major corporations and local stakeholders in Seongsu-dong, urban planning and arts and culture experts, and resident representatives attended, for a total of 20 Commissioners.
In his greeting, Chong said, "Cities always live with problems, and a city's sustainability depends on whether it can solve them," and added, "Seongsu has grown over the past 10-plus years by solving many problems, and we will also work together through Seongsu town management to resolve the large and small urban issues that arise in the future." He continued, "Let's work together so Seongsu-dong can grow into a city that leads global culture, arts, and creative industries."
