Police investigating allegations of the Unification Church's lobbying of political circles conducted a second round of questioning with President Han Hak-ja. However, an additional questioning of former Unification Church World Headquarters chief Yoon Young-ho fell through.
According to police and others on the 24th, the Korean National Police Agency's special task force met with President Han for three hours from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. that day at Seoul Detention Center in Uiwang, Gyeonggi.
As President Han stated during the first police questioning on the 17th that she did not know about the alleged lobbying of political circles, she is presumed to have maintained a similar position that day.
Police had also planned to meet with former Deputy Minister Yoon, who is being held at Seoul Detention Center, but the questioning reportedly did not take place due to "personal reasons."
President Han and former Deputy Minister Yoon are suspected of delivering valuables worth tens of millions of won to Rep. Chun Jae-soo of the Democratic Party of Korea (former Minister of the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries), former Rep. Lim Jong-sung of the Democratic Party of Korea, former Rep. Kim Kyu-hwan of the United Future Party (now president of the Korea Coal Corporation (KOCOAL)), among others, between 2018 and 2020.
Taking into account that the statute of limitations for violations of the Political Funds Act is seven years, police are accelerating the investigation by summoning Unification Church finance and accounting officials one after another.
