Police have launched an investigation into broadcaster Jun Hyun-moo (48) receiving an IV drip inside a car.
According to police and others on the 23rd, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul has opened an investigation after a complaint was filed with the national civil complaint portal requesting a review of whether it was lawful for Jun Hyun-moo to receive an IV drip in a car.
The allegation resurfaced as a scene from the 2016 MBC variety show "I Live Alone," showing Jun Hyun-moo receiving an IV drip in a car, drew new attention. Broadcaster Park Na-rae (40), who appeared on the same show, as well as SHINee member Key (birth name Kim Ki-bum, 34) and YouTuber ipjjalbeun Haetnim (birth name Kim Mi-kyung, 44), halted activities over receiving illegal injections from nonmedical personnel.
However, Jun Hyun-moo's agency SM C&C said in a statement on the 19th, "All medical procedures, except for the final stage of treatment, were conducted in a hospital based on the medical staff's judgment and prescription," adding, "There was absolutely no instance of personally calling a medical professional or receiving an illegal procedure." The agency added, "The scene in question highlighted only part of the situation without sufficient context, which led to misunderstanding."
SM C&C additionally released parts of the medical record that day, saying, "It is proven that on Jan. 14, Jan. 20, and Jan. 26, 2016, formal treatment was received at a hospital." It continued, "The treatment consisted mainly of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and gastrointestinal medication following diagnoses of pharyngitis, laryngitis, and gastroesophageal reflux, and the IV drip was part of a medical procedure to support the treatment."
SM C&C also said, "After receiving an IV drip on Jan. 20, we returned the stored medical waste when visiting the hospital again on Jan. 26, as instructed in advance by the medical staff."
