A new station on the Greater Seoul area express railway (GTX) B line will be additionally built near Cheonghak Sageori between the Incheon National University Entrance Station (Songdo International City) and Incheon City Hall Station.
According to Incheon City on the 22nd, the Korea National Railway's feasibility review for adding a GTX-B station found the benefit-cost ratio (B/C) was 1.03, exceeding the 1.0 threshold for major investment projects, officially confirming the project will move forward.
It is estimated that 254 billion won will be needed to build one more station between the Incheon National University Entrance Station (Songdo International City) and Incheon City Hall Station on GTX-B. Under the principle that the party responsible bears the cost in accordance with relevant laws and the implementation agreement, Incheon City will cover all design and construction costs.
Incheon City has been pushing to add stations to enhance the efficiency of the metropolitan rail network that runs through Incheon—such as GTX-B, the Suin Line, and the Second Gyeongin Line—and to expand the areas that benefit.
GTX-B will be built along an 82.8-kilometer section from Incheon National University Entrance Station to Incheon City Hall Station, Bupyeong Station, Bucheon Sports Complex Station, Sindorim Station, Yongsan Station, Seoul Station, Cheongnyangni Station, and Maseok in Namyangju. The total project cost is 684.78 billion won, comprising 428.94 billion won in private capital and 255.84 billion won in public funds.
Yoo Jeong-bok, the Incheon mayor, said, "The long-held wish of local residents has borne fruit," adding, "The newly confirmed additional station will more closely connect Songdo, Yeonsu, and Namdong, and will be an important turning point that leads Incheon's balanced development and strengthens the city's competitiveness."
