Cho Young-tak, CEO of IMS Mobility, who was arrested by the special counsel team (Special Counsel Min Joong-ki) investigating Kim Keon-hee, asked the court to review again whether his detention was lawful, but the request was denied.
After holding a hearing on the 17th for a detention validity review requested by CEO Cho, the Criminal Appeals Division 1-3 of the Seoul Central District Court (Presiding Judges Jo Jeong-rae, Jin Hyun-ji, and Ahn Hee-gil) dismissed the request. Cho will remain in custody.
A detention validity review is a procedure that asks the court to decide whether a suspect's arrest by an investigative agency is appropriate and whether there is a need to keep the suspect detained.
Cho was detained on the 6th on charges of being involved in attracting improper investment while managing IMS Mobility, which Kim Ye-seong—identified as the "butler" for Kim's family—helped establish and in which Kim held equity. After a detention warrant for Cho requested in September was rejected, the special counsel team sought the warrant again this month.
