The special counsel investigating the insurrection case said it secured testimony that first lady Kim Keon-hee was angry with former President Yoon Suk-yeol after he declared the Dec. 3 emergency martial law.
On the 15th at the Seoul High Prosecutors' Office in Seocho-gu, Seoul, special counsel Park Ji-young released the results of an investigation into insurrection and foreign collusion charges related to the Dec. 3 emergency martial law and said the team had secured testimony that "when martial law was declared, Kim Keon-hee and President Yoon Suk-yeol fought fiercely. 'Because of you, everything is ruined,' (she said)."
Park went on to say, "Regarding the first lady's position on the declaration of emergency martial law, I remember there were words to the effect that she had a lot on her mind, but the declaration of emergency martial law ruined everything," adding, "So it was not the case that (the former president's declaration of martial law) was done in collusion with Kim Keon-hee."
However, Park said one of the motives for the former president's declaration of emergency martial law was first lady Kim Keon-hee's "legal risk." Park said, "The purpose and motive of the emergency martial law declaration were the monopolization and maintenance of power," adding, "(The purposes related to the first lady) are all included."
Park added, "It seems (the former president) wanted to solve everything at once."
