A newborn died while wrapped in an envelope in a building in Jung-gu, Seoul. Police arrested a Vietnamese national in her 20s who abandoned the newborn.
According to the police and fire authorities on the 14th, at about 6:30 p.m. that day they received a report that "a newborn has been abandoned in a paper envelope" at a building near Dongguk University.
Police and fire authorities who responded to the scene found the newborn in cardiac arrest. The baby was taken to a hospital but died.
Police arrested a Vietnamese international student in her 20s, identified as A, as a suspect. A gave birth to the baby that day. The woman is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment.
The Seoul Jungbu Police Station plans to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident and review applying charges including abandonment.
