One of the two people who went missing after a collapse at the construction site for a new public library in Gwangju was found dead on the 13th.
According to the Gwangju Fire and Disaster Headquarters, at about 1:03 a.m. that day, a worker in his 60s, identified as A, was found at the collapse site of the Gwangju Representative Library in Chipyeong-dong, Seo District, Gwangju. A was already dead, and firefighters recovered the body. A was reportedly working on rebar in the basement just before the accident.
Fire authorities had suspended the search the previous day, judging that structural stabilization work was necessary. While the search was halted, stabilization work was carried out to prevent additional collapse of the truss steel structure, including fixing it by connecting wires. The search resumed at midnight that day.
The death toll from this accident is three, including A. At about 1:58 p.m. on the 11th, a collapse occurred at the construction site to build the Representative Library on the former Sangmu incinerator site in Chipyeong-dong, Seo District, Gwangju, burying four people in total. Fire authorities are still searching for one worker who has not yet been rescued.
