On Saturday the 13th, conservative and progressive groups held rallies at several locations across downtown Seoul.
Groups including the Korea National Movement for Straightening Out the Republic of Korea (Daegukbon), led by Pastor Jeon Kwang-hun of Sarang Jeil Church, held a rally in front of the Dongwha Duty Free shop in Jongno-gu that afternoon. According to an unofficial police estimate, 2,000 people had joined as of 2:30 p.m.
Participants, holding umbrellas or wearing raincoats in the rainy weather, chanted slogans including "Yoon again."
Pastor Jeon, who has been identified as being behind the violent disturbance at the Seoul Western District Court and is under investigation, took the stage and said, "Police are trying to detain me again," and, "If I am detained, 10 million people must gather and all rise up."
After the rally, participants marched from the Dongwha Duty Free shop, passed Euljiro 1(il)-ga Station on Subway Line No. 2, and returned to the Dongwha Duty Free shop.
The progressive civic group Candlelight Action also held the "169th Candlelight March" rally near the Supreme Court in Seocho-gu at 4 p.m. that day. An unofficial police estimate put the crowd at 500.
They chanted slogans such as "The people are the law, the National Assembly must immediately establish a special tribunal," and called for the creation of a "coup-d'état exclusive tribunal" to purge the "insurrection forces." After the rally, they said they planned to march to the area near Gangnam Station on Subway Line No. 2.
