The death toll from the collapse at the Gwangju Metropolitan Library construction site has risen to two.
Fire authorities said they rescued a man, the second of four people buried in the incident, at about 8:13 p.m. on the 11th at the site of the former Sangmu incineration plant in Chipyeong-dong, Seo District, Gwangju.
Firefighters found the man's lower body at about 2:53 p.m., but he showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities are working to confirm his identity.
As of 8:10 p.m., the casualties from the incident stood at two dead and two missing. A 47-year-old man who was the first to be rescued at about 2:52 p.m. that day was taken to a hospital but died.
Fire authorities switched to an overnight search to locate the remaining two buried people.
