A Korean man in his 40s was arrested by police for pouring boiling water on the face of his Thai wife, causing burns.
According to police on Dec. 11, the Uijeongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi booked a man in his 40s, identified as A, on suspicion of special assault. The case was reportedly transferred from the Seongdong Police Station in Seoul.
A is suspected of pouring boiling water on the face of his Thai wife B, in her 30s, who was asleep at an apartment in Howon-dong, Uijeongbu, around noon on the 3rd.
Afterward, A took B to a burn specialty hospital in Seongdong-gu, Seoul, and the hospital, suspecting an assault, reported it to police around 9 p.m. that day.
A is said to have testified, "I wanted to make her face ugly so she wouldn't meet another man," indicating that the crime was committed to stop B from leaving.
Police are checking the evidence and are said to plan to seek an arrest warrant soon.
Meanwhile, the case became known in Thailand as well. B relayed the facts of the case through a Thai acquaintance's social media (SNS), and Thai outlets including The Thaiger reported it.
